Eagle’s Roost House

West Vancouver, BC, Canada
Completed 2022

Perched atop a sheer granite face, the Eagle’s Roost House emerges from a dense forest and projects skyward. A collaboration with a passionate client led to this dynamic contemporary home which weaves together the spectacular outdoors with warm and intimate interior spaces. When the client purchased this rocky site, he envisioned a stylish retreat to replace the aging structure. The existing raised foundation was preserved, and a new house built atop it. This unique construction approach required no new excavation and thus the property’s lush forest was left intact.

The house nestles into the forest and moss-covered boulders on a narrow ledge with cliffs above and below. When entering the house, lines of sight to important natural views are immediately established through the open living spaces. Expansive windows look out past the trunks of giant Douglas fir and western redcedar trees to the waters of Georgia Strait. The large, upturned eves are angled so that they shelter from rain but do not limit natural light. The Eagle’s Roost House serves as a place to experience the wind, the forest and the sky.
